The jargon parquet comes from the French word parchet, meaning a small enclosed space. _x000D_Parquet floor became a work of art over time; glued into3 ft. squares these hand cut pieces of wood were scraped, scrubbed, sanded and polished. Complete designs were created laying the wooden floors, taking much time and skill. This made parquet floors extremely expensive and they appeared only in the homes of the most affluent and royal families.
